Samsung Discusses Project Moohan and the Secret Benefit Its XR Headset May Yield
Samsung has made significant strides in the world of cloud gaming, with its technology set to revolutionise the way we play games. The South Korean tech giant announced its cloud gaming platform during Gamescom, and it's already available in the UK and Germany.
At the heart of this innovation is Project Moohan, a virtual reality headset that Samsung is developing in collaboration with Qualcomm and Google. Jong Hyuk Woo, Samsung's global vice president of services, developer and marketing, believes that Project Moohan opens up opportunities for instant content accessibility.
One of the key features of Samsung's cloud gaming platform is its ability to provide instant experiences. This is considered crucial for the future of Project Moohan, as Jong Hyuk Woo also discussed the possibility of seamless transitions between experiences in the Metaverse with Project Moohan.
The cloud gaming technology for Samsung's VR headset Project Moohan is expected to be available around the first half of 2023. However, it's not just restricted to gaming on Project Moohan. Samsung's technology could potentially be used on various devices, including smart TVs and even refrigerators.
The mobile cloud gaming platform on Samsung Gaming Hub allows users to play games without needing to download or install them onto their Galaxy phone or tablet. All Galaxy phone owners with the Mobile Gaming Hub installed can access the platform, regardless of the phone's age or capabilities.
Despite the progress, there are still challenges. The biggest limitation today is the content itself, as many games are not truly cross-platform. Jong Hyuk Woo stated that as content becomes cross-platform, controller mapping and similar features will be important. He also mentioned that more publishers are now considering cross-platform as part of their game development strategies.
Jong Hyuk Woo, with his vision of a future where content will live ubiquitously and seamlessly across all screens, sees potential applications for this technology beyond gaming. He believes that this technology could pave the way for a Metaverse where experiences are seamlessly interconnected, and instant access to content is the norm.
Samsung is also considering expanding its cloud gaming technology beyond phones and tablets. The technology behind Samsung's cloud gaming platform is scalable, and with the growing interest in cross-platform content, Samsung is ready to adapt and grow with the times.
